Why aren’t you your own biggest supporter?

People often ask me about happiness and joy and the biggest way to find those states in their day to day lives.

After getting asked this question, I usually ask them to reflect -

How many times a day do you take time to

  • give yourself credit
  • cheer for yourself
  • be proud of the hard work you’ve put in
  • talk nicely to yourself in the way you look at things

Most people’s answer I’ve encountered: I never do that daily, maybe do that once a week or a couple times a month.

It will be hard to find happiness/joy or whatever positive emotion/state you’re looking for if you don’t have gratitude for your own self, you don’t support yourself and you don’t love yourself.

Love yourself.

If you have to, go to a mirror, look at yourself and literally say, “I love you.”

And keep doing that exercise as often as you need.
