I’ve gone through my fair share of mental health issues and so I’m hoping to create a series of articles on how I’ve gotten myself into a better place.

  1. Stop worrying about what others think of you

A lot of people with mental health issues worry about what their friend, their parents, their friends, or whoever it may be thinks of them.

It’s tough, but you have to stop that. Who cares if they think you’re successful or not? Who cares if they think you’re overweight or not? Let them judge you.

The only opinion you need to care about is yourself.

Am I taking the actions that are putting myself in a position to make myself happy and to better myself?

That’s all you need to worry about. Why?

  • You will never be able to control what other people think of you, so why spend time worrying about it? Control what you can control. The only you can control is your attitude, your actions and how you approach today?

Why executing this mindset is tough

  1. We’re social creatures. We like validation. We like our peers approving of us.
  2. Social Media. Everyday we go on social media and we see positive images of people doing well. They’re on vacation, they’re in a relationship, they got promoted.

Nobody ever posts I’m having a bad day, I’m going through a depressive episode.

People just want to show a perfect life. So you’re intrinsically comparing yourself to your peers everyday when you go on. You have to the mental capacity to understand that most people are only going to want to show off a perfect life, that’s all that you will see.

3. It takes practice.

It takes practice going to Thanksgiving dinners not caring about whether your uncle gives a look of disappointment or not when he asks what you’re doing.

It takes practice to just focus on yourself and not care about others.
